Layer: MassGIS Merged Wetlands or Wetland Buffer Zones (ID: 18)

Name: MassGIS Merged Wetlands or Wetland Buffer Zones

Display Field: Shape.STArea()

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: This layer was created in March 2021 by DPRS to be used with OpenGov to help automate determinations of whether a building permit requires Conservation Commission review, based on proximity to wet (wetlands, streams, ponds, etc.) features or floodplains. The process for creating this layer involved downloading the most recently available data from MassGIS (as last revised in 2020) for the following layers indicating possible mapped wet features:NHESP Potential Vernal PoolsNHESP Certified Vernal PoolsUSGS Major Ponds and Major StreamsMassDEP Hydrography 25KMassDEP Hydrography 100KMassDEP WetlandsNational Wetland InventoryThese layers were then clipped to the City of Worcester’s boundaries, with a 500' buffer. These clipped layers, along with existing GIS Data basemap layers "gismapping.GISDATA.Basemap_Brooks_Streams" and "gismapping.GISDATA.Basemap_Lakes_Ponds_Rivers", (DATE?) were all buffered 125' feet. FEMA’s Floodplain layers, which also came from MassGIS, showing all areas with a 1% annual chance of flood (i.e. the 100 year or regulatory floodplain), were given a 25' buffer.The wet features (+ the 125' buffer) and the floodplain layers (+ the 25' buffer) were then merged to create the multipart polygon feature here.
